My Christmas Wish

What do you want for Christmas?
A question on everyone's lips for that last minute gift
Like a good girl, my Christmas shopping is done
What was on my list?
A book
A tablet
Nothing expensive
Nothing really special
Five days before Christmas as I'm lying in bed, praying
I realize what I really want
My mama
The way she was
Free of dementia and cancer
So like a child, I go to Jesus and ask for a miracle
Can you heal my mama for me?

The sun begins to set on the horizon
A chill washes over the man and woman
They keep moving
The man walks slowly in sandals, holding the reins of a donkey
The woman, great with child, rides on the donkey
Her face is painted in serenity
His is calm and loving
When the only light in the sky is the stars and the moon, they settle for the night in a cave
No grand dinner
Just bread, water and olives
They sleep an undisturbed sleep
When the sun shines overhead
They pack up their belongings and continue on their journey

Seeking Sinner

Black as coal her skin has become
As her sins show on the outside
Her bones twisted
It is her brain that shows in her bones
Yet she limps with each step
Reaching her hand out
To touch her Savior's

It was decreed by law that we must travel to Bethlehem
My hopes to of giving birth in the comfort of my own home were shattered
Joseph, right now is looking for a gentle donkey for me to ride on
Although I am great with child, I can walk
My husband insists otherwise
I am packing our clothes for the journey
And extra blankets for the babe that will come into the world soon
My neighbor asked only yesterday
Mary, you must be so frightened
I smiled and offered her a cup of water
There is no need to be frightened
I trust in the Lord
